RYEDALE Council's decision not to go ahead with the sports hall project has astonished local people. Consultants were hired. Their advice was unqualified: we need a community sports hall in the Malton/Norton area, full stop. The elements needed for a successful lottery bid are all there, they say.
Advice has been asked for, paid for and could not have been given more plainly. So why is the council not taking it?
Mr Greenway (Letter, October 13) seems out of touch. He mentions a swimming pool. Who's talking about a swimming pool? The consultants say the need is for a dry sports facility.
The matter will not go away. Those who want to see better sports provision for young and old in central Ryedale will keep campaigning until they get it.

Scampston, Malton.
