IT may sound odd but I have found the closure of Lendal Bridge has not benefited myself as a pedestrian or bus user, even though both walkers and buses are allowed on the bridge.
I live off Water Lane and walk to and from the city centre more often than using a bus. This is partly because the bus services in my area keep changing. I had just worked out the new timetables only to find the bridge closure has badly affected the X19 which goes up Leeman Road.
On an evening, traffic is solid in this area and I don't know how people living in the area cope, particularly the children trying to cross the road.
Walking is not pleasant as I walk alongside a huge traffic jam from Bootham, to Clifton Green and then Water Lane
So I look forward to the reopening of the bridge to all traffic not only for the easing of traffic in other areas of York but also to be able to admire the newly painted iron work - I had never noticed the angels on the middle of the bridge until the day the workmen were covering them up!
