YOU condemn the Joseph Rowntree Foundation report which was suggesting the need for management of the reputation of disadvantaged estates (October 13).
You say that it would be totally unnecessary for such an estate to have an 'image manager'. A dedicated 'image manager' may not be defensible but successful regeneration does require careful management of reputation.
Are you aware that twice in the past week, you have referred to Etty Avenue as the 'street from hell'? You quote it as someone else's words but it is you, the media, that perpetuates the myth.
You used to always refer to Bell Farm as the 'notorious Bell Farm estate' before the regeneration project got underway - and which incidentally employed image management techniques in its initial stages geared to encouraging residents themselves to speak out. I noticed that as that regeneration project got underway, you started referring to it as the 'formerly notorious Bell Farm estate'.
It is interesting to see your more recent coverage even referring to 'York's flagship estate' when referring to Bell Farm. Some would say the image management worked!
