Drax United are now the only remaining York Sunday Afternoon League first division team left with a 100 per cent record but it was a close run thing as opponents Clifton Hotel staged an unsuccessful fightback.

Drax were 3-0 up at half-time, but in a seven-minute spell straight after the break the York pub side scored twice through Paul Bedingham and Dale Phillips to reduce the arrears to 3-2.

The visitors then missed out on an equaliser as first they failed to convert a spot kick and then were denied by the woodwork.

Drax replied with two goals to make it 5-2 and put the game beyond Clifton's reach, although the visitors did fight to the end. On target for Drax were Gladwell (2), Rhodes, Broadbent and Healy.

Despite having won all their games, Drax remain second with York Nomads occupying top spot on goal difference having played an extra game.

Cross Keys had three players sent off against Nomads, who went on to win 6-2 with goals by Jefferson (3), Gavin (2) and Kev Lee.

Before their second player was sent off at 1-1, Cross Keys were more than a match for the league leaders and were still in contention when Peter Mullen scored his second goal to make it 2-2.

Karl Walsh scored a hat-trick for Ebor Bishopthorpe but ended up on the losing side as St John's College won 4-3 with goals by Smith, Coates and Whalley (2).

The game between Drum and York Police looked to be heading for a goalless draw until Richard Ogden scored the only goal of the game three minutes from the end to give the Police victory.

John Gladwin and John Moffatt scored Firkin 103's first goals of the season and with them came their first points of the campaign in a 2-1 win over Rookes United, for whom Rich Beddows replied.
