A woman was killed when she was struck by a train near Selby, police said today.
Officers are appealing for information about the woman's identity as she suffered extensive injuries.
The incident, which involved the 10.00am Glasgow to London Kings Cross train, happened at around 2.05pm yesterday at Balne, south of Selby.
A North Yorkshire police spokesman said the woman received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no suspicious circumstances.
The spokesman said: "British Transport Police at Doncaster are trying to establish the identity of the woman concerned.
