A police motorcyclist was bruised, but otherwise uninjured, when he came off his bike after a car pulled out in front of him while he was on his way to an emergency call.

PC Sean Grey, from the Road Policing Group, at York, was taken to York District Hospital for a check-up after the incident at the junction of Burton Stone Lane and Bootham today.

Sergeant Nigel Atkinson, of York Police, said: "He was responding to an emergency call heading towards Clifton when another vehicle pulled out of Burton Stone Lane across his path, causing the rider to fall from his vehicle. The other vehicle did not stop, but was followed by a local taxi driver, who enabled us to trace him. I will be speaking to the driver later in the day. At this time it's an error of judgement and nothing more than that."

Sergeant Atkinson said the accident caused considerable disruption.
