THE Cyclist Touring Club's stance in respect of law-breaking by some cyclists is analogous to motoring organisations such as the AA and RAC. We cannot enforce the law, but willingly lend our name to sensible campaigns which encourage and educate all road-users towards better behaviour.
The cycling proficiency scheme is gradually being rolled out at local secondary schools, and will hopefully instil sensible roadcraft at an early age.
This in turn may reduce the numbers of older teenagers who tear around on motorbikes or in cars and add to the grim statistics of road deaths and injuries.
