AS one of the so-called PRATTS referred to by Mrs C P Hogarth (Letters, October 7), I wish to express my concerns about the extension to Rufforth tip.
The Wetherby road is simply not good enough to carry the extra traffic that the arrival of 250,000 tons of rubbish a year would generate.
As yet we don't know how much will be leaving after recycling or the amount of traffic that will be generated. And to add insult to injury, not all of the rubbish is from York - it also comes from Selby and West Yorkshire.
The Beckfield Lane skips also will increase traffic as anyone living in that area would endorse. Some of this extra traffic could also come through the village - there are no rules to stop it.
I see from Yorwaste boss Mr Grieve's letter that there are "up to 2,000 cars on a busy Sunday" at the Foss Island civic amenity site.
Just imagine that volume of traffic, plus all above mentioned added to the regular Sunday morning car boot, and God help the Wetherby road.
I'm also concerned about the green belt. This tip extension will include what is effectively a recycling factory. This means factory buildings.
Once Yorwaste has built on Harewood Whin, it will open the door for others who have previously wanted to build in the green belt area between Rufforth and York.
Will Mrs Umpelby and Mrs Hogarth be happy to see the airfield turned into an industrial estate? If it hadn't been for the so-called PRATTS in the village, we would now have more buildings on the airfield, a race track and a cattle incinerator.
Gerry McDermott,
Bradley Lane, Rufforth.
