THE first round of the English Schools Cross-Country Cup at Northallerton brought success for all four York schools who entered.

All the quartet - St Peter's, Tadcaster, Canon Lee and Manor - had one team qualify for the North East final which is to be held at Skipton next month.

From there the first three teams progress to the National final, which is being held this year at Tadcaster Grammar School - the first English Schools Championship to be staged in North Yorkshire.

The intermediate girls event was dominated by the York entrants as St Peter's and Canon Lee finished joint first and provided the first three individuals in Asha Hibbert, Lara Gibbs and Anna Clarke.

The junior girls race was won by Tadcaster's Nicola Lampard, last season's North Yorkshire champion, and with Lauren Mason finishing third, they led the Tadcaster team through to the next round.

Manor's junior boys finished third and also qualified for the Regional Final.

LACROSSE

A dozen lacrosse players at Harrogate Ladies College have been selected for Yorkshire in the Under 18 Northern County Championship.

Five - Lucy Parker, Hannah Norton, Rachel Smart, Claire Faber and Joanna Graham - are in the county 'A' team, while Charlotte Ruhle will captain the county 'B' team which includes Isabelle Robinson, Sarah Wyatt, Charlotte Alldritt and Elizabeth Wrighton. Samantha Wright and Laura Brayford, also from Harrogate College, are reserves for the 'B' team.
