A YORK victim of the Global Vacations nightmare has got back the £3,145 he forked out to the holiday firm.
The Acomb customer, who does not want to be identified, has had his account credited with the full amount by his credit card company.
And he has thanked York trading standards officers for giving him "excellent" advice as he sought to retrieve the money - and the Evening Press for supporting him and other aggrieved Global customers.
Scores of people from across the region paid Global Vacations up to £5,000 to join its Global Discovery Club after attending sales presentations at the firm's offices in Walmgate. They expected to receive cheap, but luxurious, holidays in return, but some never even received their club membership packs.
The Acomb customer says he has been contacted by Perth-based Global Discovery Club (Scotland) Ltd, which claims to be a totally separate entity to the English club but which is offering to give customers similarly discounted holidays. The Scottish club is asking for a £95 "administration fee" to cover the extra costs incurred in taking on additional staff.
The man said he was ignoring its offer.
