A York man charged with murder has been released on conditional bail.
Last week, the city's magistrates remanded Ian Edward Smith, 48, in custody for seven days.
But when he returned to court, he was on bail.
Clerk to the justices Glyn Simpson told magistrates a judge granted him conditional bail on Tuesday.
Magistrates renewed his bail on the same conditions, which include reporting regularly to police.
Smith, of Ratcliffe Street, Burtonstone Lane, York, is charged with murdering Colin Fawcett on May 19, 1997 in York.
