Clifton Cycling Club's Mark Turrell continued his superb record in this club's hill climb championships with a comfortable victory on Sunday.
However, the fastest ride on the day went to York Cyclework's Elite category rider Alastair Kay, who was using the event as preparation for the National Championships in the Mendips at the end of the month.
In ideal conditions Kay stormed up the two kilometre climb at Bishop Wilton on the big chainring in 5min 29.35 sec.
Turrell, winner on his two previous rides, in 1989 and 1994, was just 16 seconds slower, however, and the only other rider in the field to beat six minutes recording 5min 45.81sec.
Third place went to Paul Musgrave, champion for the last two years on the shorter Milking Hill climb at Yearsley, crossing the line this year in 6:12.11.
Helen Scull (8:29.16) took the women's prize, scoring a narrow victory over last year's winner Claire Gilmartin, who recorded 8:42.82, while George Young was fastest veteran with 7:17.38.
Other times were: R Lilley 7:25.23; S Roebuck 7:54.93; A Clune 6:44.53; I Toyne 6:46.95; A Pearson 7:24.66; K Scully 7:06.32; R Osman 6:29.35; I Kent 7:57.67; R Almond: 6:35.72.
Kay's victory came a day after scoring a rare victory over 1999 National Hill Climb Champion Jim Henderson in Otley CC's two-stage hill climb.
Henderson was fastest on the first climb on Norwood Edge, while Kay was denied third place on the stage due to a late start.
However, on the second climb, the 1400 yard East Chevin, Kay clocked 4:10.1 to win the stage from Henderson, who was 4.3sec behind.
