York's Jamie Warters will bring to an end 11 months of frustrating inactivity when he climbs through the ropes later this month to take on Sheffield's Jason Barker.

Light heavyweight Warters was due to fight central area champion Paul Bonson in a British and Commonwealth title eliminator earlier this month.

Now the Jorvik Warrior will take on Barker, the former Scottish super middleweight champion, at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium on Saturday, October 21.

Journeyman Barker has fought 45 times winning less than half and is ranked 19 in the domestic light heavyweight rankings as opposed to Warters' nine.

But Barker has vast experience having fought and lost to the likes of undefeated British and Commonwealth middleweight champ Howard Eastman, former light welterweight world champion Shea Neary, leading super middleweight contender Brian Magee and one time world super middleweight title challenger Cornelius Carr.

Like his illustrious colleagues, Warters will be looking to use Barker as a springboard to titles with victory earning a title eliminator clash with Ali Forbes.

Londoner Forbes is ranked sixth in the British domestic light heavyweight rankings having won 12 of his 18 fights. Warters' fight with Bonson was cancelled at the 11th hour when the promoters were unable to find a replacement for the top of the bill clash between Sheffield's Clinton Woods and Michael Nunn.

Woods, the European light-heavyweight champion, suffered a cut in training forcing his withdrawal.

Warters was hopeful the fight with Bonson could be rearranged but now claims the Wakefield fighter is running scared."His people started haggling for more money and I just think he didn't want to fight me, even though I have been out of the ring for so long," said the Jorvik Warrior.

"Barker will be a big test. He is really durable and has been in with some big names.

He will also have home advantage."But I am really looking forward to it. I am sick of training to be truthful and can't wait for the fight.

The fight with Barker will be Warters' first since out-pointing Hull's Terry Morrill on November 13 last year.
