York City manager Terry Dolan today made his third acquisition in as many weeks by landing left-back Neville Stamp from Second Division Reading.
Stamp arrives on a month's contract initially but Dolan admits the teenager could land a longer deal if he impresses.
Dolan has been forced into the transfer market after it was revealed veteran left-back Wayne Hall is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Hall limped out of Friday night's 2-1 win over Mansfield Town with a pulled thigh muscle adding to the City manager's ever-lengthening absentee list.
Dolan will definitely be without suspended defenders Mark Sertori and Darren Edmondson for Saturday's trip to Southend while Gary Hobson is unlikely to be considered having failed to shake off a knee injury.
Already on the injury list are Kevin Hulme, Chris Fairclough, Peter Swan and Peter Duffield while Christian Fox is coming back slowly from a hamstring injury.
To make matters worse, Barry Jones missed training yesterday with a virus while Martin Reed will only return to training tomorrow for the first time in more than a week following a chest complaint.
In such troubling circumstances Dolan said he was delighted to get Stamp, who impressed during a couple of reserve team outings for the Minstermen last month.
At the time, Dolan said the 19-year-old had caught the eye but felt he could not justify adding to his squad.
Stamp, who is set to feature for City reserves at Wigan tomorrow afternoon, arrives on a free from Reading, where he was on a week-to-week contract.
The Reading-born youngster has come up through the ranks at the Madejski Stadium but injuries have limited his senior appearances to just one.
With so many injury problems, Dolan said he may cast his eye over a couple more trialists in tomorrow's reserve team match at the JJB Stadium.
York City goalkeeper Russ Howarth kept a clean sheet as England Under-18s defeated minnows the Faroe Islands 5-0 in the European Championships qualifying tournament in Italy.
The victory, coming after Saturday's 4-0 win over Andorra, means England have to beat the host nation, Italy, tomorrow to qualify for the intermediary qualifying round next spring.
Howarth will face stiff competition for another starting role tomorrow from Chelsea's Rhys Evans, who was in goal against Andorra.
And it will certainly be a stiff test of England's credentials after Italy beat the Faroe Islands 6-0 and Andorra 9-0 in their opening two games.
York City youth team's first round FA Youth Cup tie at Mansfield Town tonight has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The tie will now be staged next Wednesday, October 18, kick-off 7pm.
Former Scarborough boss and ex-York City player Colin Addison has been appointed manager of Nationwide Conference leaders Yeovil Town.
He takes over from David Webb, who quit to take over the reins of Southend from former York chief Alan Little.
