The Lord Mayor of York, Coun Shan Braund mixed her marching gear and her civic regalia when she strode out from the Mansion House to get ready for a charity challenge.
Coun Braund is taking part in the Millennium Walkway Challenge to raise cash for her charity appeal in aid of the Children's Society and York Mencap. The walk, on Saturday, passes through urban villages and some of the best countryside around the city, and can be done in easy stages.
The shortest is an all-ability three-mile section, while the fit and adventurous can embark on the full 25-mile walk or take part in the timed team event.
Everyone who takes part and sends sponsorship money by November 1 will receive a special certificate and cloth badge. Those raising the most money and wearing the best fancy dress will be invited to special reception hosted by Coun Braund at the Mansion House.
For details about how to help the appeal and take part in the walk call Jane, on York 627866.
