There was not an Ugly Sister in sight as around 200 young hopefuls took part in all-singing, all-dancing auditions for a York pantomime.
Wannabe stars from around the city gave it their all on the stage of the Grand Opera House in the hope of landing a supporting role in Cinderella alongside Emmerdale's Stuart Wade and Gladiator Ace.
But most went home disappointed as only 35 youngsters were picked to go to the ball.
Lorraine Goscinski, of Haxby, whose nine-year-old son Ryan was hoping to be picked for the third year running, said Ryan had needed no prompting to come to the auditions.
Jenny McGuigan, of Wigginton, was keeping her fingers crossed for her daughter Chelsea, who has also had a role in the last two pantomimes at the Grand Opera House.
Mrs McGuigan said getting a part in the pantomime was very important for Chelsea.
"It rules Christmas for all of us, but she loves it," she said.
The chosen few will have 11 two-hour rehearsals to learn their lines and steps in preparation for seven shows over the festive season.
"We have to work around it and the whole family comes down to watch."
Cinderella runs from December 14 to January 7.
