York RI gained entry to the third round of the Tetley's Bitter Vase by hammering Hullenisians 45-10 at New Lane.
Despite poor conditions that made handling difficult, RI scored six tries to the visitors' one, having earlier taken a 6-0 lead thanks to two penalties by Matthew Yates following Hullenisians ill-discipline.
Well led by Andy Morse, the York side dominated the set scrums, with Rod Simms at open side wing forward producing one of the best performances of the season in the front eight.
The home side took longer to get the better of Hullensians in the lineouts, however, and lacked quality possession from this department, despite lock forward Chris Hudson jumping well and having a good game in the loose.
RI were still the stronger side, though, and extended their lead to 11-0 when winger Jon-Paul Wong outpaced the opposition defence to touch down in the corner.
A rare move into RI territory saw Hullenisians tight head prop Martin McLoughlan crash over for a try converted which was by Paul Edwards.
Both sides then added penalties before a slick RI handling move put winger Matthew Madigan in space to score, Yates converting to make the half-time scored 18-10.
In the second half, RI quickly gained the upper hand and scored further tries by Paul Reed, Andy Kehoe, who was outstanding at centre and Joe Nasson.
Matthew Yates converted two and just before full-time added another penalty to complete the scoring.
