CHAMPIONS Nestl Rowntree's run of 22 consecutive West Yorkshire League premier division wins came to a shuddering halt on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat at Carlton Athletic.

Nestl also surrended the lead in the table, as Carlton now remain the only club with a 100 per cent record this season.

Hotshot Vernol Blair was the difference between the sides, hitting a superb hat-trick to stun Jim Collis's men.

Lee Bond hit the only goal of the game as York RI won at Nostell Miners Welfare - and what a goal it was.

The striker curled a superb 30-yard free-kick into the top corner of Nostell's net to give his side a deserved second win of the season after a fine all-round team display.

Tadcaster Magnet Sports went nap against Rothwell in division one, with Paul Baxter leading the rout with a fine hat-trick.

Jason Wright was not far behind, netting the other two.

Knaresborough Town were in County Challenge Cup round one action, but got knocked out by Beeston St Anthony's in a 2-1 defeat.

Miles Sutton headed Knaresborough into the lead and the advantage should have been doubled by Adam Walker, but he saw his effort saved.

Beeston were second best in the first half but equalised when Graham Holman put through his own net when attempting to clear the ball.

The visitors took greater control after the interval and Tony Garth headed the winner on the hour mark.

Harrogate Railway had a bad day in the Northern Counties East League premier division, being hammered 7-1 at Glapwell.

The hosts were 2-0 up at the break thanks to a Simon Poxon brace, and then Brendan Yates hit a four-goal salvo before Chris Taylor completed the rout. Steve Davie netted Railway's consolation.

Goole ended Sheffield's run of ten consecutive wins by holding their guests to a 1-1 draw.

Hot-shot Jon Pickess gave Sheffield a 70th minute lead only for Kevin to equalise in the dying minutes.

Selby Town's match at Thackley was one of several games washed out, as was Pickering Town's division one encounter at Borrowash.

Richard Howley netted Tadcaster's second goal of the league season in the 77th minute, and it was enough to see off the visitors.
