REBECCA Sowden, of Harrogate, has come runner-up in the Nestl Tennis Ladder England Knock-Out competition 16 and under event at Aldershot Tennis Centre, Surrey.
Rebecca gained a place in the final following a clear defeat over her semi-final opponent, Katie Mastin, from Stamford, 6-0 6-1.
In the final Rebecca was beaten by Amy Cook, of Bristol, in a tough match which ended 6-4 6-3. Despite losing, Rebecca still managed to improve on her position of third place in last year's competition.
Over 20,000 players throughout England have been competing in Nestl Ladders at their schools and clubs since March. The company is celebrating its 40th year of tennis sponsorship and the Nestl Tennis Ladder is the longest-running event in junior tennis.
Rebecca - whose favourite player is Andr Agassi - qualified at her local club, The Academy in Harrogate, for the knockout stages of the 16 and under event.
She received a cheque for £75 plus a salver and a Nestl tennis bag and clothing. In addition, the Academy received a cheque for £25 towards the development of tennis as a result of Rebecca's gaining a place in the finals.
