YORK Acorn's Gareth Lloyd has missed out on a place in the BARLA Great Britain and Ireland Lions squad for the forthcoming Emerging Nations Rugby League World Championship.
Lloyd, who will turn professional with York Wasps next season, had been named in the original 24-man train-on squad.
However, after a final training session on Wednesday night, Lloyd was cut from the final 20, but he is one of five players placed on stand-by should any of the players pick up injuries before the start of the tournament on November 13.
Great Britain assistant manager Vinny Webb said: "Gareth has done very well and we've stressed to the lads on stand-by that there are another three games prior to the competition and, with rugby league being a contact sport, anything can happen."
BARLA squad (to play France in Albi): Paul Birdstall (Lock Lane), Darrell Cooper (Royal Engineers), Stuart Dancer (Walney Central), Paul Davidson (Wath Brow), Ian Devlin (Walney), Gary Fletcher (Leigh East), Scott Fletcher (Skirlaugh), Nigel Halmshaw (West Bowling), David Hedgecock (Royal Engineers), Marc Jackson (Wath Brow), Darren Jones (Wigan St Judes), Terry Lynn (West Hull), Junaid Malik (Elland), Wayne McCue (Redhill), Steve Morton (Queens), Brian Newby (West Hull), Phil O'Neil (Wigan St Pats), Phillip Sherwen (Wath Brow), Robert Shaw (Ideal Isberg).
