Amazing machines are coming to York as part of an exhibition of automata.
The York City Art Gallery's Devious Devices display will include objects which range from the rocket to the toothbrush.
It features the work of 18 leading makers, whose work was selected by Monty Python animation supremo, Terry Gilliam.
Funded by the Craft Council, Devious Devices celebrates the world of artists who have been called "tourists in the world of engineering," characterised by their spirit of invention and individuality.
It shows the advances made in automata, which has a history taking in the German clock makers of the 18th century and the creators of the English seaside penny arcades.
The exhibition will open on Saturday and continue until November 26.
