Rail passengers in York faced severe delays after a man threatened to jump off a viaduct on to the track.
Passengers waited on trains and at York Railway Station as GNER was forced to halt its trains while police tried to coax the man down from the viaduct, near Durham.
British Transport Police were called to the scene at about 3.30pm yesterday and spent two hours talking to the man before he agreed to climb down.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said that passengers faced "substantial" delays because of the incident.
