Police were called to a York estate after a dispute between neighbours boiled over into the street.
Cars were damaged and baseball bats brandished as opposing groups hurled threats at each other.
The disorder, which had been simmering in Byland Avenue for at least two days, flared at around 1.35pm yesterday.
Acting Inspector Colin Moreton, of York police, said officers were sent to the scene after people were spotted in the street using threatening behaviour and causing damage to vehicles with baseball bats.
He said the disorder stemmed from a dispute between two groups on the Bell Farm estate to which officers had been called out previously.
Acting Insp Moreton said three arrests had been made today.
