Joseph Rowntree School, a dominant force in York-area netball in recent years, have started the new season with another trophy.
Their Under-14s won the York Schools tournament, beating Huntington 7-4 in the final at the Joseph Rowntree School courts.
Accurate shooting by Sarah McQuade and some fine interceptions by Katie Caffrey saw Joseph Rowntree build a 5-1 half-time lead. Huntington improved in the later stages but could not claw back the deficit.
Huntington had beaten All Saints 10-4 in the semi-finals after winning Section Two where they beat Archbishop's 12-1, The Mount 6-0, Tadcaster 9-3 and St Peter's 14-3.
Joseph Rowntree defeated Bootham 17-0, Manor 10-1 and All Saints 5-2 on their way to winning Section One and beat Tadcaster 12-6 in their semi-final.
The winning Joseph Rowntree squad was Emily Fowler, Sarah McQuade, Katie Ellis, Heather Welsh, Katie Caffrey, Kathryn Cordell and Michelle McQuade.
St Peter's won the 'B' tournament ahead of Joseph Rowntree 'B'. All Saints were third, Huntington 'B' fourth and Joseph Rowntree 'C' fifth.
The county netball trials which were postponed last month because of the fuel crisis will be held at Joseph Rowntree School on Saturday.
