David Ashton's rather barking comments (Labour on the slide, September 30) really do leave one wondering about the Tory fiefdom that is North Yorkshire County Council.
Just a few weeks ago, Coun Ashton was criticising his party leader, who implicitly and shamefully attacked a North Yorkshire County Council school.
Perhaps Coun Ashton should reflect on the alleged overpricing of school meals in North Yorkshire schools.
Perhaps Coun Ashton should reflect on the outcome of the BSE inquiry which allegedly castigates past Tory government ministers for allowing BSE to happen and not lifting a finger to help farmers or give open information to consumers.
Perhaps Coun Ashton should reflect on Tory party policy that contains a £16 billion public services cuts guarantee, leading to cuts in pensions, doctors, nurses, teachers, police, key local government services and much more.
The truth is that while coun Ashton and his Tory colleagues in North Yorkshire arrogantly act in a complacent fashion as if they have a divine right to rule, they will continue to replicate the worst tendencies associated with recent Tory governments.
