A Fish and chip shop was severely damaged by smoke after fire broke out in a fat fryer.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Neptunes fish and chip shop in Micklegate, York, just after 1pm yesterday after a report of a fire in the fish range.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Fat was destroyed by fire and there was ten per cent fire damage to the cooking range, severe smoke damage to the fish shop and light smoke damage to the kitchen area and restaurant area.
"There was light smoke damage in the loft space above."
Two firecrews used thermal imaging equipment to study the scene, before entering to put out the fire.
A member of staff at the shop said the owner was very upset about the fire, but the shop would be up and running again in the next couple of days.
