A motorcyclist injured in a crash on the A19 near York was today said to be in a stable condition in York District Hospital.
The accident happened near Crockey Hill, between York and Escrick, before 1pm on Saturday, when the motorcycle, ridden by Stephen Turner, 31, of Lewisham, south east London, rounded a bend and encountered a queue of traffic.
Police officer Steve Bushby said: "For some reason there was a queue of traffic on the A19 and two motorbikes came round the bend towards it from the Selby side. One of them crashed his bike into the back of a Vauxhall Astra. "We closed the road because we were concerned about his arm which was bleeding badly."
The motorbike was a Suzuki 750. The stretch of road was closed off for about an hour.
Mr Turner sustained a collapsed lung and a fracture to his left arm.
Later in the day, at about 7.30pm, a three-car accident on the A63 at Hambleton, near Selby, resulted in one person being trapped and having to be released by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "One elderly lady was trapped in the passenger side of one of the cars and received minor injuries.
"She was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, but she was the only casualty."
