Father and son combination, John and Phil Emmerson, won the Haxby Road Bowling Club's 2000 Ron Craven Memorial Open Pairs competition.
The Emmersons, of the Holgate Club, defeated Ron Newton and Garry Bunce, of Haxby Road, 23-16 in an absorbing final.
The Emmersons led 10-4 after eight of the 21 ends, but Newton and Bunce levelled the scores at ten all after 11 ends only for the Emmersons to score five on the 12th end to lead 15-10.
Newton and Bunce responded with four successive winning ends to make the score 15-15 after 16 ends, but the Emmersons took control with a match winning six on the 18th end.
In the semi-finals, John and Phil Emmerson defeated Howard Darrell and Peter Henderson, of Bootham, and Newton and Bunce beat David Birch and Les Jackson of Heworth Conservatives.
This was the Emmersons' second success in the competition as they were winners in 1991 and were also runners-up in 1992.
John Emmerson's success in the Ron Craven pairs gave him an unprecedented clean sweep of all the York Pairs Bowling competitions.
He earlier won the City of York Open tournament, with Arthur Dunbar, and the York Amateur Bowling Association Club and Institute Pairs, with Mick Birkley.
