THOSE of us who argued against the Vale of York power line, as did the Evening Press, have now been proved right by a team from Bristol University.

Apparently, the electric field near high power lines causes pollution to stick more readily to people's lungs, causing an increase in cancer statistics.

This proves that undergrounding new lines is the only safe way of eliminating the cancer risk. As well as looking better, the electric field becomes zero. New advances in conductivity of buried lines mean this has become even more attractive.

The National Grid should therefore bury all new lines, as well as starting on some of the worst existing ones.

I want Yorkshire to continue to have an attractive landscape.
