MASCOT fame could be just around the corner for a York Wasps supporter - if they are prepared to take up the Wobby challenge.
Last season's Wobby, Pete Miller, has decided not to pursue the role of the winged wonder for the forthcoming season.
So the Wasps are on the lookout for a new face to fill the furry flier's costume.
The York mascot, sponsored by the Evening Press, became something of a cult figure last season and the Wasps are keen for him to return for the Northern Ford Premiership campaign which begins on December 3.
And who knows what it could lead to - just look at the success of York City's mascot Yorkie.
The furry feline has been on Radio 5 Live, Radio York and now Radio 1.Applications are now being taken for anybody wishing to take over as Wobby, and for youngsters interested in being match-day mascots next season. They will be again be sponsored by K Walker Accountants and, as well as leading out the team, will receive a Wasps strip and have their photograph taken with their favourite player.
A sportsperson's dinner is to be held later in the year to raise money for club funds. The event, open to both men and women, will feature a comedian, compere, raffle and auction. It takes place at the Gimcrack Rooms at York Racecourse on Wednesday, November 1.
Tickets cost £25.Anybody interested in any of the above should contact chief executive Ann Garvey at Huntington Stadium on 01904 634636.
