Children at a small country school are enjoying using a brand new classroom.
The new room at Foston CE Primary School, near Malton, has been created out of an old toilet block which became redundant when new toilets were added some years ago.
The school paid for the £12,000 conversion using a grant from the Gemini Trust and an anonymous donation. Work is now going on to carpet and furnish the room, but headteacher Susan Taylor said the children were already enjoying using the new space.
"We're going to use it as an extra room for the infants or where small groups of children can go who are working with an adult," she said. There is also a reading corner in the room and parents have raised money for a book holder, floor cushions and bean bags.
Foston School has two classes and this term has 25 pupils. The room was officially opened by parish priest, the Rev Rachel Benson, and the ceremony was also attended by John Greenway MP and by Coun Alan Farnaby, from Ryedale District Council.
