AS concerned parents who organised the meeting on June 13 at Poppleton Community Centre, to discuss Mr David Potter's return to Upper Poppleton Junior School (UPJS) we are responding to Mr Andre Scruton's letter (Evening Press, July 20) and Mr and Mrs Davies' letter (June 22).
We respect parents of an earlier generation of UPJS. Their experience of the school and Mr David Potter's excellent teaching record remains unchallenged.
When Mr Potter was arrested and investigations into sexual abuse conducted by the police, parents' initial reaction was one of disbelief.
Unfortunately, it caused real concern.
The June meeting was also attended by senior representatives of the LEA, members and chairperson of school governors, Mr Potter's union representative and the headmaster.
More than 90 people attended the meeting - an excellent turnout.
The aim of the meeting was to present other UPJS parents with reasons for our concerns relating to Mr Potter's return to school.
The meeting was not anonymous. We introduced ourselves and our purpose at the beginning.
Only Mr Potter's suitability in the light of allegations of sexual abuse was questioned. The proposal "we reject the LEA recommendation" was not defeated. It was accepted by 26 votes.
We believe Mr Potter has made the right decision - not to return to school.
