A Grandmother and her daughter have become the latest victims at a notorious A64 accident blackspot.
Police are appealing for witnesses after two adults were killed and four other people injured when two cars were involved in the incident on Golden Hill, a mile west of Malton, at 11.40am yesterday.
The blackspot has already claimed at least four lives since 1996 and seen numerous other non-fatal crashes, prompting Ryedale MP John Greenway to call for action.
"Over three and a half years ago, the Conservative minister for roads agreed that improvements needed to be made on Golden Hill, yet still no action has been taken," he said.
"I want to know how many more people are going to be killed before something is going to be done."
Yesterday firefighters had to free the two trapped victims, including a three-year-old girl, from a red Ford Fiesta containing three generations of a family from Bradford.
A man and the young girl were taken to York District Hospital with very serious injuries.
The male passenger was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary yesterday and both he and the girl toddler, who is still at York District Hospital, are said to be improving.
The two elderly passengers in the other vehicle - a gold Lexus - were taken to Scarborough General hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
The elderly passengers, George Bowser, and his wife, Doreen, from Scarborough, are suffering from broken sternums as a result of being restricted by their seat belts.
A 49-year-old woman and a woman in her 20s were certified dead at the scene.
Both lanes of the A64 were closed by police for over four hours while the wreckage was cleared away.
Traffic heading towards Malton was diverted via Welburn, creating long tailbacks east-bound.
In November last year, retired storeman Andrew Leedham, 76, and his wife, Emma, 74, a retired nurse, of Murrough Wilson Place, off Wigginton Road, died after their Nissan Micra collided with a Leyland Daf articulated lorry travelling towards Malton.
They died three years to the day after another accident at the same spot in which Julian Littler and Nicholas Mitchell, both 27 and from the York area, died when their 1976 MG Midget spun out of control and hit a Peugeot.
Anyone who saw either the vehicles or the collision in yesterday's incident should contact police at Malton on 01653 692424.
The scooter rider killed in a road accident in Selby yesterday morning has been named as Dale Simon Stokes, 17, of Station Cottages, Barlow.
Mr Stokes was only 50 metres from the factory where he worked as a fabricator when his blue 100cc Peugeot motor scooter was in collision with a blue Toyota car in Union Lane, Selby.
