A CAR vandal who cut a York resident's face to "ribbons" with a beer glass has been jailed for three years.
David Farmery, 29, lashed out when Gary Causer approached him to get a description to give to police, a court heard.
He also attacked him with a truncheon and hit him as he lay on the ground.
His brother Christopher, 27, who joined in the attack, was jailed for nine months.
Farmery had knocked over wheelie bins as the brothers walked home from a pub at night last January and gone into Mr Causer's Acomb driveway. Their victim had abandoned a quiet evening with his wife to follow them.
The jury at the brothers' trial heard that shortly after the "glassing", both approached police to accuse their victim of launching an unprovoked attack.
Mr Causer, brother of tragic heroin overdose victim David Causer, showed them how the attack had scarred his face.
Sentencing the Farmery brothers at Doncaster Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Crabtree said they were kicking cars parked by the roadside when Mr Causer approached.
"This unfortunate man suffered dreadful injuries. His face was cut to ribbons," said the judge.
"He was knocked over, punched and kicked, hit over the head with this truncheon, though how it came there remains a mystery."
Earlier the judge had said he suspected one of the Farmery brothers had brought it with him. All three men deny carrying it.
Acomb brothers David Farmery, formerly of Lindsey Avenue, who has previous convictions for assault and criminal damage, and Christopher Farmery, of St Stephen's Road, were convicted of grievous bodily harm by a York jury last month.
For David Farmery, Martin Rudland said he had not gone out looking for trouble.
For Christopher Farmery, David Bradshaw said he was remorseful and regretted becoming involved.
He had not used either weapon.
