IT is disappointing to learn that the Friday afternoon tea dances held at the De Grey Rooms for a short trial period are to be discontinued because City of York Council has decided they are not viable, due to lack of numbers.
I wonder if the council has taken into consideration that July and August are holiday months when many people are away from home and many grandparents are looking after grandchildren. The dances are happy occasions and ideal for senior citizens who are unable or unwilling to go out in the evening, but who enjoy 'proper dancing'.
The De Grey Rooms is the ideal venue for this sort of function and I hope the council will reconsider its decision.
