The St Leger is the only Classic race yet to be won by Sir Michael Stoute, who can set the record straight at Doncaster tomorrow. But with which horse?
Newmarket-based Stoute saddles two leading fancies - Air Marshall and Dalampour - in the Rothmans Royals-sponsored showpiece, which carries £350,000 in added prize money.
Both horses were in action at York last month when Air Marshall won the Great St Voltigeur Stakes, with Dalampour back in third.
Tomorrow, though, the tables could be turned. Dalampour was having his first race on Knavesmire since winning the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot in June and he was unsuited by having to make his own running.
The extra two furlongs tomorrow will probably suit him better than they will Air Marshall.
Although there is likely to be little between the two stablemates at the end, I fancy Dalampour to come out on top under Pat Eddery.
Before his York victory, Air Marshall was pipped on the post at Goodwood by Millenary, who is also in tomorrow's line-up.
Tough, talented and representing John Dunlop, who has won the St Leger twice, Millenary's chances would be even better if the ground eases.
Add to the field useful horses like Savoir Vivre, Marienbard and Mark Johnston's hope Littlepacepaddocks and there is every reason to believe that this year's St Leger will be a thriller.
The safest solution to the two Stoute runners is to back them both, but come the finishing line Dalampour might just have the call over Air Marshall.
Tim Easterby switches Romantic Myth back to five furlongs in the £45,000 Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes and the hint should be taken.
A triple-winner over the minimum trip, Romantic Myth just failed to see out six furlongs on Knavesmire last month when fourth to Enthused in the Lowther Stakes.
The Porcelanosa Rated Handicap looks a good opportunity for Black Silk to notch his second success of the season.
Chris Wall's useful campaigner, who ran a blinder in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in June, was caught out by reverting to seven furlongs at Goodwood last time when third to Muchea.
Back to a mile tomorrow, he is napped to come through with flying colours.
Colway Ritz, the mount of Tyrone Williams, has as good a chance as any in the wide-open Ladbrokes Handicap, while in the equally tricky Pegler Nursery over seven furlongs, Mythical Jinks looks a potential improver from the Ed Dunlop stable.
At Goodwood, Surprised, successful on the course a fortnight ago, bids for an encore in the £20,000 Phillips Auctioneers Challenge Cup Handicap over six furlongs.
Trained by Richard Fahey, the five-year-old seems to be right back to his best form and I would not be surprised to see him oblige again with Seb Sanders renewing the partnership.
Fellow North Yorkshire raiders, Abbajabba and Premium Princess could well give him most to do.
