RECENTLY it was reported that the council is attempting to introduce a 50mph speed limit on the A1237, York's northern ring road.
The police are oppose it on the grounds that they have not got the manpower to police a speed limit.
Their view is upside down or back to front. It is the reason why we have road humps and lawlessness.
Reasonable drivers would observe a reduced speed limit and help to police it. Others, who don't, would be laying themselves open to prosecution.
The most important thing is that once a speed limit is in place, drivers who cause crashes can be charged for speeding.
