MANY oilseed rape growers are reported to be reducing seed rates in an effort to cut the costs of the 2001 crop.
But BASF warns that this could result in less competitive crop canopies and an increased threat from early weed growth this autumn.
In these circumstances, farmers should opt for pre-emergence herbicides, where possible.
