LEA Tichener has been released by York Wasps and will join up with amateur neighbours Acorn.
The prop forward rejected the terms offered him by York, opting instead to ply his trade in the amateur ranks.
Tichener, 29, joined York in 1994 from Bramley and went on to play 99 times for the Wasps, including substitute appearances.
His decision to join Acorn sees 'Tich' return to the club where he played before turning professional.
York coach Lee Crooks said: "We made Lea an offer but he felt it wasn't what he wanted so he has decided to go back and play amateur rugby."
Fellow prop Mick Hagan has agreed to re-sign for the Wasps as has centre Shaun Austerfield, taking the squad up to 21 players.
Paul Darley has been made an offer which he will consider while he is on holiday in Australia while Matt Woodcock has agreed to sign once his work commitments are over. Talks are continuing with Andy Preston who is currently working with Woodcock and is in a similar position.
Crooks is hoping to add a couple of players to the squad this week, although he is no longer chasing former Wasp Gareth Dobson.
The York chief had been hoping to speak to the Castleford hooker about a return to Huntington Stadium but has now admitted they do not have the money available to offer him a contract.
Full pre-season training will begin next Monday with the players having completed a six-week weights programme.
The squad so far is: Jamie Benn, Max Ryce, Leroy McKenzie, Darren Hughes, Gareth Lloyd (amateur forms), Shaun Austerfield, Craig Moore, Matthew Mulholland, Richie Baxter (trialist), Leigh Deakin, Paddy Handley, Gareth Stephens, Mick Hagan, Michael Smith, Andy Precious, Alan Pallister, Andy Hill, Mick Ramsden, Adam Briggs, Craig Forsyth, Spencer Hargrave.
Off the field, the Wasps have been disappointed by the initial response to their sponsors evening which will be held at Huntington Stadium on Thursday, September 28, starting at 7.30pm.
They are still keen to hear from any companies or individuals interested in attending the event which will outline sponsorship packages available for the forthcoming season.
A buffet and a free drink on arrival will be provided.
