MORE than 60 jets based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse have been grounded because of a technical fault.
It follows an incident last Friday when a Tucano trainer was forced to land because of a problem with its rudder.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said two people were in the jet at the time, but no one was injured.
"They were still able to land, although this is difficult without the rudder," she said.
"It is repairable but we are being cautious by checking every aircraft because we have to be careful where safety is involved."
Checks on other aircraft revealed they had the same defect and the entire fleet was grounded.
The Tucano, which is built in Belfast by Shorts, is used for training all RAF pilots.
Eighty in total have been grounded around 65 of which are based at Linton-on-Ouse.
