SCARBOROUGH have an early chance to bounce back from their shock defeat at home to Dagenham on Saturday when they visit rival seasiders Southport tonight (7.45pm).
Boro were subject to a smash and grab raid at the McCain Stadium as they created a host of chances in the Nationwide Conference clash but lost 1-0 to a controversial 47nd-minute spot kick.
Caretaker player-boss Neil Thompson said: "I felt it was a poor decision but the linesman gave the penalty when I thought Shaun (Rennison) played the ball.
"We had enough chances to win two games, but their 'keeper has pulled off a load of good saves and our finishing was poor. The game should have been dead and buried before half-time, but we fell to a sucker punch."
Thompson started the game at sweeper, but came off with a pulled hamstring just before half-time and is set to miss tonight's game and Saturday's clash at Hayes. Otherwise he has a full squad to choose from.
"I'm pleased we've got a game tonight as it gives us an early chance to bounce back," the Boro chief said, adding that fit-again goal-getter Chris Tate was in contention for a starting role having been a substitute on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Selby Town will be hoping to complete an FA Cup shock tonight when they entertain UniBond League outfit Winsford United in a preliminary round replay (7.30pm).
The Robins, who held on for 1-1 draw at Winsford on Saturday to bring the tie back to Flaxley Road, are awaiting late fitness news before naming their line-up. Nigel Croad took a knock during Saturday's game and is one player who may be ruled out.
Elsewhere, Harrogate Town, who enjoyed their first win of the season with a 4-0 cup thrashing of Bacup Borough on Saturday, return to UniBond League action at home to Ossett Albion (7.45pm).
Manager Dave Fell will be hoping to take that cup form into the league, in which they have so far lost four out of four, and is likely to name an unchanged squad.
Goole, who enjoyed cup success on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat of Jarrow Roofing Boldon CA, also revert to their league campaign as they entertain Brigg Town in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
The big game in the West Yorkshire League tomorrow sees city rivals Nestl Rowntree and York RI clash at Mille Crux.
Champions Nestl have had by far the upper hand over RI in recent years and will be favourites to win again and continue their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
Boss Jim Collis tried to play down the derby atmosphere, saying: "They (RI) class playing us as their game of the season but, although there is a little bit of rivalry, to me it's just another match."
RI add Pickering Town player Pat Gaughan and former Easingwold man Tony Snowdon to the squad which went down 3-0 at Wakefield on Saturday, and general manager Nigel Rhodes said: "This game will be a test as usual.
"They haven't lost a game and we haven't won yet this season, but we're hoping it all comes right tomorrow. We're due some luck."
Knaresborough Town visit Mount St Mary's hoping to have Marcus Emptage and Adam Walker back after injury. Nigel Young definitely returns after unavailability and Chris Ellerker will also figure, though Simon Cowan is still away andMiles Sutton is ruled out.
