Poppleton'S 68-40 victory over Rowntree Park in Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League division one ended Park's challenge.

Poppleton pair Rob Jones and John Moore set up the win with an unbeaten 27.

Poppleton's remaining fixture sees them take on second placed Dunnington, who also beat Rowntree Park (67-41) in a rearranged match - Phil Spencer and Andy Peake-Vout were unbeaten on 24.

Although Wigginton did not play over the Bank Holiday, other results sent them to the top of division two.

Knaresborough stay in second place, with Sutton upon Derwent closing in third after beating Bishopthorpe 66-42.

Paul Colbeck and Paul Swift scored 24 for Sutton, but went down 5-7 to Rob Moore and Alan Yarwood, who scored 24 unbeaten.

In division three Copmanthorpe's two wins, 67-41 over Dunnington and 75-33 against Poppleton II, means that only Appleton Roebuck can equal their points.

Graham Butcher and Carl Addison scored 29 and 24 in Copmenthorpe's victories.

In the relegation zone Poppleton III beat Castlegarth 55-53.

Poppleton took 24 in the first rubber which was reversed in the second, but John Major and Bob Jones scored seven in the last rubber to save the match.

Castlegarth ended their fixtures with a win conceded by New Earswick who are, no doubt, glad to see the end of a bad season.

For relegation-haunted Castlegarth their future lies in the hands of the three clubs beneath them.

The only match in division four pushed Cliffe nearer the drop as John Downes and Jason Clark scored 26 in Heworth's 68-40 win.

Appleton Roebuck II moved into second place in division five with a 56-52 win over Knaresborough II who scored 23 in the final rubber. Knaresborough have four matches to play.

Rufforth's successful, unbeaten year ended with a 64-44 win over Civil Service II and they confirmed themselves as champions of division six.

Andy Ivel and David Laws ended with three 8-4 wins to keep their year's average at just over 30 games per match.

In Cawood's II's 80-28 win over New Earswick II, Tony Gosling and Graham Bond scored 34 including two 12s.
