YORK'S first Sunday race meeting was a winner. Thousands of spectators flocked to Knavesmire to watch a huge field of runners and riders battle it out for the top prizes.

This was a different crowd to that which attends the midweek meetings. Yesterday there were many who had taken advantage of the weekend card to experience a day at the races for the first time. They are sure to have left the course with a very favourable impression of this popular sport.

The Evening Press was delighted to sponsor this historic day. It was such a success we are confident York's first Sunday meeting will not be its last.
