YORK'S world champion side-car racer Steve Webster has two rounds left of this season's championship to cling on to his title.
Racing in Assen, Holland, he struck disaster and saw his series lead cut to 18 points as arch rival Klaus Klaffenbock got among the points and Webster was left empty handed.
Webster had looked set to add to his points haul with another winning return, only to lose his passenger Paul Woodhead on the final lap.
"We were leading going into the last lap, but then we had a little bit of an accident," explained Webster.
"There was a bit of oil on the platform and Paul lost his hold and slipped off.
"There were no broken bones, Paul just had a bit of battering and I think the worst thing was the hurt pride.
"But he is fit and ready to go and we still hold an 18-point lead going into the last two meetings. So we will make the best of it, try and avoid the mishaps, and give it a real go."
Webster and Woodhead were back in England today to have a run out at Donington and then will travel to Germany on Thursday in preparation to take on Klaffenbock on his own soil next Sunday.
