COMMUTERS using York Railway Station faced long delays today after a man was killed on the track near Raskelf, north of York.
Trains north and south of York were delayed by up to two hours after the incident, just before 8am, involving a train bound from Edinburgh to King's Cross.
Police at the accident scene told the Evening Press today they found a car abandoned on a dirt track leading to the railway line after a train driver reported the accident.
Sergeant Michael Barber, of British Transport Police, said they had then found the body of a man on the line.
His identity was not yet confirmed and police did not yet know how the man had met his death.
All trains to London Kings Cross were delayed - although some passengers were advised to travel via Leeds, where the line was open.
Hundreds of commuters were standing around York Railway Station waiting for information that the line was clear.
