TOMORROW is a very special day. For the first time in its history, York racecourse is to hold a Sunday meeting.
The day, sponsored by the Evening Press, is intended above all as a great family day out.
That means it will be packed with fun activities for the kids. A chance to ride a racehorse simulator; a display by the First Royal Dragoons; a parachute display; a Minster FM radio show and free children's goody bags are some of the fun things on offer.
But don't let the fun aspect of the day fool you into thinking the racing isn't serious. It is.
Such has been the interest in the first Sunday meet, the race card has already had to be increased from seven races to eight - with an extra race scheduled at 5.50pm.
The meeting has attracted a staggering 136 runners - one of the biggest entries at the Knavesmire course this season.
So there will be plenty of fun - and plenty of excitement, too.
The Evening Press prides itself on providing unrivalled local racing coverage. But we pride ourselves on being your newspaper, too. That's why we've taken the step of sponsoring this first Sunday race meeting. We want it to be your day: a day for all the family.
If you've never been to the races before, what better time to start? If you're an experienced punter already - well, this promises to be a day of racing you'll never forget.
These are your races. We hope that, come rain or shine, you'll be there to help make sure they're a success.
