THE countdown has begun for the grand unveiling of new developments of one of York's major attractions, which has undergone a £5 million revamp.
The massive redevelopment at the Jorvik Viking Centre, in St Mary's Square, will see a radical move from the attraction's existing displays.
The new experience will offer "more Vikings per visit" and will take a look at life in the 10th Century from a totally new angle. The museum's bosses will also be unveiling the replacement for Jorvik's famous time cars, which have spent the past 16 years taking visitors back through the mists of time.
These are set to be replaced by the latest in "time travelling" technology and the voice of former Mastermind presenter Magnus Magnusson, which has accompanied the tour, will have disappeared. The museum was a leader in its field when it opened and has drawn millions of visitors to the city.
Now its new incarnation will see it brought right up to date with elements of film and moving exhibitions.
