LONG-SERVING Sammy Anderson will be hoping to lead Pocklington to more glory this season.
The Percy Road outfit had a season to remember last term winning the North East Two title and being named World Rugby magazine's Team of the Year 2000.
Second row Anderson has been named as the new skipper with No 8 Jason Nicholson as his vice-captain ahead of the Yorkshire One campaign.
Anderson, from Beverley, joined Pocklington in 1987 and has been a cornerstone of the pack ever since. He has led the side occasionally, and was vice-captain two years ago.
Nicholson, a former Yorkshire Under 21 forward while with Hull Ionians, is in his third season with Pock and was the side's top try scorer last season.
Cleckheaton, led by British Lion John Bentley, and reported to have signed up more star names, will provide Pock with the sternest of test in the opening league fixture tomorrow.
Pocklington's second string, the Panthers, also have a new captain in scrum half Andy Kirby, from Skirpenbeck, who has had spells with York and Malton.
His vice-captain will be last season's skipper and back row, Adam Lakin.
Pocklington Pilgrims and Merovingians have no change to their leadership with Richard Thompson captaining the Pilgrims for a third season while the Merovingians will have Ray Denton as skipper.
