ORGANISERS of York's stricken Scout and Guide Gang Show have been inundated with offers of secure premises, paint and equipment after a series of vandalism attacks.
The attacks, which have taken place at the gang show's workshop in offices in Osbaldwick, have put preparations for the traditional entertainment show behind schedule by three weeks.
Although two youths have been arrested and cautioned, stage manager Mike Green is desperate to find a new space where preparations, including scenery painting, can take place.
Scenery, costumes and other equipment were damaged in two separate attacks over the space of two weeks when vandals splashed paint and glue around, causing disarray at the premises.
Mr Green is talking to the National Grid, which owns the offices the gang show is using at present, about taking on another of its premises.
And Bryan Coates, of Access Space, in Lawrence Street, York, has also offered a 1,500sq ft warehouse, which usually costs £2,000 a month, free of charge until November when the show takes place.
He said: "I was in the Scout movement myself and anyway we always try to help charities where we can, but it's not always possible.
"This warehouse has 24-hour access, lighting, video monitoring and a burglar alarm."
Mr Green said: "I'm very pleased that there are people out there willing to help us.
"I've also had calls from people offering to donate paint and I've also had the promise of a donation from someone who wished to remain anonymous.
"I am very grateful for all these offers. What we do need now, though, is someone with a bit of artistic flair who could help us to paint the scenery."
If you can help, call Mr Green on 01904 704313.
