It is often said that the elusive Ouse bream are more likely to make a rare appearance when there is an extra tinge of colour to the water.
If this is the case this weekend's Dispensary Cup could produce one of the highlights to an otherwise lack lustre season. After torrential and localised rains last week a large section of valley side turned into liquid mud and slipped into the River Ure close to Appersett.
This has seen the Ouse and Ure resemble the colour of hot chocolate ever since.
What effect this will have on angling prospects remains to be seen, but participants in weekend events would be well advised to go armed with a supply of lob worms.
I expect another low turnout for the York event which is scheduled for all waters between Redhouse and Poppleton, however only a short section of this stretch of river is likely to be required.
Odd bream have been in evidence in recent club events at Redhouse with pegs above the Rough Field most consistent.
It is the humble perch that has made up most nets again strengthening the case for a worm attack.
Match action returns to Poplars Lake at the Oaks fishery after the sensible break following the parasite problem.
The lakes' residents are now all fighting once again and should provide hectic action for what is likely to be a sell out field of 54. The day ticket fee has been waived for this week's contest which should ensure a bumper pay out for the winners.
At Carpvale the Bank Holiday Monday event went to Dave Armitage (Normark) with 47-10-0. Drawn on peg 15 he fished pole and worm at 12 metres to net six decent bream plus carp.
